Episode Transcription

JONI: I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and Ken and I are getting ready to read through the Bible. And Ken Tada is joining me today in the studio.

KEN: I’m excited!

JONI: And you know, Ken I think it’s over two decades that we’ll be reading through the Bible again!

KEN: Oh man we’re so excited and even right now we’re looking forward to starting over in Genesis.

JONI: And I know that you and I want our friends listening to join us in this adventure, so friend just go to joniradio.org today to sign up for your reading plan and for my monthly reflections. And I don’t know Ken when I look at our reading plan, and as we look to January, beginning in Genesis – I get excited about reading the Old Testament!

KEN: Oh, absolutely! We used to do the reading where you had the Old Testament, New Testament daily. Now we’ve gone to strictly the chronological approach to reading the Bible and it’s great!

JONI: It really is because we’ve become familiar with the bad kings in Israel and the good kings in Judah.

KEN: And we’ve also been able to take Bible atlases, maps and follow along with the Old Testament. That used to be such a hard part for me to discover where these different places they were talking about in the Bible were located.

JONI: And also, we’ve got a book on the tabernacle which I love!

KEN: Oh yes, brings the Bible to life.

JONI: It does! And also, we always look for Jesus Christ, don’t we?

KEN: Absolutely. I can tell you in October we hit the New Testament. But even so, up until then, there’s so much richness in the Old Testament.

JONI: So many references in the Psalms: he is the capstone, he is the stone that the builders rejected, he is the glorious sword in Jeremiah, he is the wall of fire. In fact, you and I have been inspired to memorize some of those titles for Christ, haven’t we?

KEN: Oh, absolutely. It’s always great when you can use God’s Word, his name, to start your prayer life with.

JONI: Yeah, and even when we’ve memorized portions of the Old Testament, because we read it so much – so often, those words end up in our intercessions and in our praise and worship. In fact, you and I memorized –

KEN: Psalm 63!

JONI & KEN: “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water…”

JONI: Well, we could go on and on with that Psalm but it’s great to recite it with you.

KEN: Yup!

JONI: When we’re in the car, it’s our way of starting out a drive down the freeway, just by reciting God’s word together. But I don’t think you and I would be doing this, were it not for our constant reading through the Bible every day. My favorite time of day Ken Tada is after I get up, and before I head to Joni and Friends headquarters – getting a hot cup of coffee and pulling up to the kitchen table. You’ve got your Bible, I’ve got my Bible, and before we begin reading, you always say…

KEN: Oh, I love it. God bless to us the reading of his Word.

JONI: And we mean it. We want the Holy Spirit to open our eyes and give us fresh, new insights. And Ken, I’m so excited that come January, we’ll have a chance to gain even more fresh insight. So friend, sign up to receive your day by day reading plan, and join Ken and me in reading through the Bible chronologically this year. And you’ll also get monthly updates from me as we journey through the Bible together. So let’s get into God’s word, you and me; let’s learn to be at home with the word of God – go to joniradio.org to begin your Bible reading adventure for the new year. And Ken, we’ll see everyone in January, won’t we?

KEN: Absolutely. See you guys in January!

JONI: Starting with the book of Genesis. Oh, and one more thing, I want to send you a copy of our Joni and Friends newsletter so just go to joniradio.org.
