Joni Eareckson Tada: Sharing Hope

God Fulfills His Purpose

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada with a song that will always keep you looking up.  Sing it with me if you now it.

My faith looks up to thee, O Lamb of Calvary;

Savior, divine.

Now hear me while I pray; take all my guilt away

O let me from this day be wholly Thine.

All of us who claim Christ long to know God's purpose for our lives, right?  We want to know that we are wedged in the middle of His will.  That we are, indeed, being led on that path of righteousness toward His plan for our lives.  And perhaps long ago when you first believed in Jesus, you may have heard those familiar words, "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life." That brand-new thought back then warmed your heart, right? You wasted no time in embarking out on your spiritual journey, pleased and comforted — even excited — to discover that unique and special plan God designed just for you.

But perhaps those days are long ago and far away. You've gotten sidetracked, your attention-span has waned, and you are feeling as though you’re on some detour; you’ve been diverted. If so, let me ask you: Do you still believe God has a wonderful plan for your life? If not, let the Psalms jar your memory. Find assurance in Psalm 57, verse 2 where the psalmist says, “I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me.  He sends from heaven and saves me.”

Wow!  What a wonderful promise!   It says there: God will fulfill His purpose for you. He'll do it for you because He keeps His promise. And what is his purpose for your life? It’s to create in you the image of His Son. So no matter where you are in life, married or single, on the mission field or a stay-at-home mom; rich or poor, able-bodied or disabled, God’s plan is at work in your life through every circumstance that hones and shapes you into Christ’s image. And God is fulfilling His plan as you touch others with His love.  And here’s the neat thing: that makes the main road or even the detour very “purposeful.”  Unless you’ve wandered off in sin, or are resisting God in some way, well, you simply cannot avoid the plan of God in your life, because nothing ever stops the purposes of God. Isaiah chapter 14, verse 27 tells us plainly, “For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him?  His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?”  So take heart today take heart; keep your faith looking up.  If you’re not in willful disobedience to God, then His plan for you is progressing right on schedule, full speed ahead. So join me in praying today…

O, God, I praise You that You always fulfill Your purpose. You are glorified in that You keep Your promise. You never fail to send help from heaven and You are faithful in giving Your strength. I want to get in line with Your will today and say "yes" to Your plan for my life. In the name of our wonderful Savior, Amen.
