Joni Eareckson Tada: Sharing Hope

Gospel Bracelets

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and have I got a neat gift for you today!

Welcome to "Joni and Friends" where we sure do love to pass on God's blessings.  And sometimes those blessings are small enough to wear right on your wrist.  Let me explain.  The other day several children from a home school group came to visit our headquarters here at “Joni and Friends”,  and after they got a tour of the International Disability Center, they stopped by my office where I proceeded to show them where I work and how I type with a voice dictating program and so on.  And then I invited them into my art studio – I always love to show boys and girls my sketches and all the tubes of  paint and how I'm able to draw with my mouth.

But a child almost never leaves my art studio without a gift – I keep a stash of Gospel bracelets in a box on the shelf and I love presenting each child with one.  They’re just little rope bracelets -- some of them come in leather -- and on them, I explain to each child, there is a black bead to show our sin; and a red bead here represents the blood of Christ that cleanses us from sin; then I show them, see this white bead, well that represents God’s forgiveness when we confess our sin; and this little blue bead here it shows being washed in His Word; and this little green one indicates that we need to keep growing; and what to you think this last bead, the yellow one? Yep, it represents those golden crowns we’re going to enjoy in heaven.

Well, I'm amazed how boys and girls get so excited when I give them a Gospel bracelet and they put it on their wrist.  I tell them to be sure to explain to their friends what the beads mean and by the time they leave my art studio I tell you what, they are on a mission!  They’re already thinking about school coming up and the other kids at recess or friends in their neighborhood.  It is so wonderful to see that spark of excitement about Jesus in their eyes!  And speaking of exciting things, our Wheels for the World team this week is also giving out Gospel bracelets to disabled people with each wheelchair.  These bracelets really come in handy in places where there’s a high rate of illiteracy and people can’t read.  Why, they’ve got the Bible story of salvation right there on their wrist with that Gospel bracelet, they do.

Evangelism is a big deal here at our ministry, and because these Gospel bracelets are such an integral part of what we do here at “Joni and Friends”, I want you to get in on the action, because I know, I bet, there are some children in your life, maybe grandkids, or boys and girls in your neighborhood, or perhaps you are a school teacher at a Christian school, or maybe your own children, so I want to give you three Gospel bracelets that you can pass on to these young ones.  And, hey, you might want to keep one on your own wrist like I often do.  Never know when someone might ask why you’re wearing it and it’ll be a very natural way to give the Good News in an everyday, ordinary conversation.

So, all you need to do is contact me today – you don’t have to come to my art studio -- just contact our radio page at joniandfriends.org and ask for your three free Gospel bracelets – we’ll get them off to you in the mail right away.  And while you’re on my radio page, ask for our Gospel booklet “Set Free by Grace” – its the perfect sort of thing to leave when you visit a friend in the hospital, or when you tip at a restaurant.  Again, that’s joniandfriends.org, just visit my radio page and ask for your three free Gospel bracelets so you can begin sharing the Good News of Jesus right away.  And also that Gospel booklet not only includes the gospel of John, but the plan of salvation.  So thanks again for passing on the Good News that Jesus is Savior and He is Lord. Let me hear from you today on my Facebook page or you can always post a comment on my blog at joniandfriends.org.
