Joni Eareckson Tada: Sharing Hope

Joni and Ken Bible Reading

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and welcome to “Joni and Friends”.

And Ken Tada, welcome to the microphone today.

Ken: Thank you Joni.  I’m so excited to be here.

Joni: It’s always good having you here on Joni and Friends and here we are coming up to the end of the year.  2015 is right around the corner.

Ken: And you know what that means?

Joni: What does it mean?

Ken:  It means that we finish another year of reading the Bible together and we’re going to start a new one!

Joni: All right!  I’m so glad you are excited because I know I am.  This has marked seven years?

Ken: Eight years that we have read the Bible together as a couple.

Joni: And that’s been wonderful.  I think what I’ve enjoyed most this year is that we have read the Bible through chronologically.  What have you most enjoyed about that chronological reading?

Ken: This has made the Bible flow for us. It made it easier.

Joni: Absolutely.  We can really grasp the flow of Biblical history.  You can really see God’s redemptive plan, can’t you?

Ken: Oh, yes.

Joni: And sometimes we come across favorite passages and because we are reading them in the flow of Biblical history we have a good context which also makes it kind of fun.

Ken: And I think that repetition helps because even though we know these passages from the past it takes on a whole different dimension when you read them the second time and the third time and the fourth time.  I mean it really does bring out new insight as to what the Word says.

Joni: For three, almost four months, we have been reading chronologically the New Testament and it has been wonderful to see all those chronological passages put side by side as Jesus worked through His public ministry.  It has been fun reading His word, huh?

Ken: Exactly!

Joni: And you know what?  I would like you to put out a call to our friends listening to join us in 2015 because we are going to start all over again come January 1st, right?

Ken: Yes we are.  My call is to couples obviously because it has helped us – you and I, Joni – to have some special time together, but also to singles as well.  I mean it doesn’t preclude you from being able to read the Bible through chronologically as well.  So, if you like go to our radio page at joniandfriends.org and get a reading schedule.

Joni: Yep!  It will be the chronological reading schedule.  And Ken you just touched on something the first time that I want to underscore.  What a good thing for couples to do together.  I love it that every Sunday afternoon, after church, we come home and have lunch and then we push the plates aside and open up God’s Word and read together.  I love that.

Ken: I do too, Joni.

Joni: So friend, whether you are on your tablet today or your smartphone or sitting at your desktop visit our radio page at joniandfriends.org and download your free chronological reading schedule to join Ken and me in reading through the Bible in 2015.  And while you are there on my radio page, please sign up for regular email updates.  Ken and I love emailing our friends once a month to let you know what we are enjoying, what we are gleaning from these regular Bible readings.  And you won’t be alone.  Believe me, there will be lots of friends joining you and, of course, you will be joining Ken and me in reading through the Bible in 2015.  So, Ken, any final word about how good it is to read the Word of God?

Ken: Just to hear God’s Word as we read it out loud.

Joni: So, see you later today, friends, on joniandfriends.org.

By the way, I would like to know what you are praying about or a favorite Bible verse that you are memorizing.  Tell me about it.  Just go to my radio page today at joniandfriends.org.  Or you can always write me at Joni and Friends, P.O. Box 3333, Agoura Hills, California 91376.  If the Lord has answered some prayer of yours today guess what?  Start right after we are done here and tell Him “Thanks”!
